How to Get Free Microchip for Pets in Chennai | Pet licensing 2025
From October 8, 2025, Chennai Greater Corporation is set to begin microchip implantation and anti-rabies vaccination for Pet dogs free of cost. The Service will be available at SIX GCC Pet Clinics. Registered Details and Microchip numbers will be verified by Zonal Vet Officers before license are issued.
If you are a Pet Parent, then Microchipping is mandatory in Chennai. Once microchip done, then Pet license will be issued. Here is step by step guide to get free Microchip for Pets.

What is the process doing Microchip for Pets?
To get the Microchip for your Pet, you have to visit the any nearest GOV. PET CLINIC between 10AM – 2PM. Once you get the microchip, you can apply for Pet License of your Pet

Yes, you can do microchipping from your own private vet but that is not free as Government vet Clinic. The cost of microchip for Pet in Chennai usually ranges from ₹500 to ₹2000, depending on the vet and location.

What is the last date of Pet License?
Last Date is 22nd November 2025, after that Door-to-Door Inspection will start for Pets. Please Register Pet as soon as possible to avoid any last time rush.
My old account is not showing my Pet license.
Yes, old registrations are not visible in few cases but if you have an active license as PDF, its still valid. Just Visit any of 6 Govt. Pet clinics with License for Microchip, because its mandatory.
