How to book ticket and travel in train with your pet 2025?

Travelling in train with your Dog is exciting. Indian Railways is one of the best transport to carry your Dog and other pets to longer distance. It is safe, affordable, has easy laws and allows almost all kinds of animals. 

Before taking about how to book ticket and file application for your Dog or other pet, Its very important to know about the rules of Indian railways regarding travelling with your Dog or other pet.

Please note Cabin is 4 Seats Compartment and Coupe is 2 Seat Compartment in 1AC of Indian railway. Number of coupe and cabin depends on number of 1st AC coaches in Train.

Rules of Indian railways

• A passenger can carry small or big dogs like Labrador, boxer, German shepherd along with him in AC First Class or First Class only. The passenger has to reserve the whole compartment in the train. It can be Coupe or Cabin of FIRST CLASS AC.
• You need to contact the Parcel office 24 hours before to get the ticket of your pet to travel. Please Note that Seat number and Coupe or cabin in First AC is allotted after chart Preparation (6 Hours before train Departure).
• You can also fill this railway form - click here , after seat Allotment of First class AC (usually 3 hours before Departure)
• It's owner’s responsibility to arrange food in train and water for the dog throughout the journey.
• If you are traveling with your dog in First class share an AC coach. In case of any objection from other passengers, your dog will be shifted to the guard’s van, and you won’t be eligible to get any refund (So book Whole Compartment- coupe or cabin).
• If your dog is your eye (Means your are blind), the tariff and rules will remain the same.

Step by Step Guide for ticket Booking

1. Book Ticket via IRCTC Website or IRCTC App
2. Make a booking by choosing 1AC and Select 2 Tickets (Don't book on train having a waiting List). If you travelling single with your pet then add one more passenger as your family member  to complete Booking. Check Below Images.
3. Select check box which says “Book only if confirm berth are Allocated” (Image step 3)
4. Select option “Book only if confirm berth are Allocated in same coach” (Image step 4)
5. Complete booking by making a payment. Please note Seats will be allotted only after chart preparation (3-6 Hours before Departure)

Make an Application with below details

1. Photocopy of your AADHAR 
2. Vaccine Certificate of your Pet
3. Travel fitness certificate of your pet (Provided by your Vet)

Online Process:

1. After booking, visit nearest railway office in your city and submit Application (Application link at bottom) for coupe Allotment (24 hours before travelling date). Here we using Delhi City as example. The Railway office of Delhi is at Baroda House, KG Marg, New Delhi. 
2. Once Application done, Wait till seat allotment (usually 3 hours before Train Departure). After Coupe/Cabin Allotment,  visit this link and fill the form to get the Parcel ticket for your Pet. This ticket is a valid Pet ticket for your Journey. You will also receive text message for this parcel ticket.

Offline Process:

1. After booking, you have to wait till seat allotment (usually 3 hours before Train Departure) visit this link nearest railway office in your city and submit Application for coupe Allotment (24 hours before travelling date). Here we using Delhi City as example. The Railway office of Delhi is at Baroda House, KG Marg, New Delhi.
2. After Chart preparation, visit the parcel office at station 3-4 hours before the train departure, get the ticket for your pet which will be calculated based of pet type and distance of Journey.  Keep the Ticket with your for whole journey and show to TTE during check. 

If you travelling via Metro, then nearest metro is “MANDI HOUSE”
